Originally from Sioux Falls, SD, Peter Kilian studied art at Augustana College (Sioux Falls, SD) and earned his MFA Degree in Painting from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He also specializes in Lithographic and Intaglio Printmaking methods.
Pete has exhibited his artwork regionally and nationally for over twenty five years. His artworks are found in numerous corporate, institutional and private collections. In 2015, he was selected as the Artist in Residence at Badlands National Park, South Dakota. During a two month residency, he completed over fifty (50) plein aire oil and watercolor paintings. The paintings explore the vast landscapes, strange formations, ancient geology and vivid light and colors found in this unique environment.
Pete teaches for the Northern State University art department where he holds the academic rank of Professor and serves as the department Chair. He has also worked in the field of advertising, print and multimedia graphic design.
Pete and his wife Tari Kilian, reside in Aberdeen, SD.
